Our protagonist, who is only three years old, is mysteriously torn from his mother. He is adopted by a kind-hearted couple of neighbors who are grieving the loss of their own kid. His love of aircraft is fostered by his foster father, “Viper,” a former Navy combat pilot. Tragic events, however, occur when a hungry grizzly bear kills the couple. The youngster, who is about to enter puberty, is now placed in a foster home where he must learn to live with four women. He has a number of interactions with the females at his foster home along the way, each of which shapes his perception of desire and relationships and his quest to find his true self.​
